To the Readers of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

The New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association (NJCCA) is the affiliate chapter of the national Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) representing the interests of in-house corporate counsel based in northern and central New Jersey. Our 1,200-plus members consist of in-house counsel from more than 380 public and private corporations, both large and small, as well as former in-house counsel who currently find themselves in transition. Our mission is to promote and advocate for issues affecting in-house practice, to provide the highest quality continuing legal education (CLE) to our members, and to provide a forum for professional networking.

NJCCA hosts six “premier” events each year in addition to numerous individual events.  Our six premier events consist of the following:  First, NJCCA hosts an all-day CLE conference each September in which attendees may choose from a menu of approximately 30 CLE programs throughout the day, each presented by highly skilled outside counsel and in-house panelists.  The day concludes with a networking cocktail reception which is always a lot of fun. Registrations for this year’s All-Day CLE Conference – our 10th – have shattered all previous records, a testament to the reputation of this one-of-a-kind event. Second, NJCCA hosts its annual dinner each November – this year on November 7 at the Dolce Hotel in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. The day begins with two hours of CLE programming. The dinner this year promises to be great fun as it will culminate with dancing to a live performance by Dr. K ‘s Motown Revue. Third, each December, NJCCA hosts a Holiday Book Wrapping get-together in which members wrap books to be donated as holiday gifts to mothers and children living in homeless shelters and shelters for battered and abused women. There is always great camaraderie at this event and families are welcome. Fourth, each May NJCCA hosts its Spring Cocktail Reception. This past year’s reception took place on a beautiful evening at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange and was simply spectacular.  Fifth, NJCCA hosts an annual Golf Outing during the summer. This coming year the Golf Outing will be held in July at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course which, I am told, is one of the premier golf courses in the state of New Jersey.  Finally, sixth, NJCCA hosts a Build-a-Backpack event each August in which volunteers gather to fill backpacks with school supplies to be donated to elementary school classes facing demonstrable economic need. The happiness these backpacks bring to the children is priceless.

Each month, NJCCA publishes an online newsletter for its members featuring, among other things, a substantive legal article, a calendar of upcoming events, and an original law-themed cartoon, Overruled!  We will soon be unveiling our newest newsletter feature: a series entitled “Great Lawyers From New Jersey History,” in which we will present profiles of attorneys who made a substantial impact on New Jersey jurisprudence and the practice of law during their careers.  We’re excited about this new feature, so keep an eye out for it.

It is always my pleasure to speak with members, sponsors, and prospective members and sponsors, so please do not hesitate to call me at (201) 272-5308 or e-mail me at joseph.aronds@acc-njcca.org if you want to chat.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. Aronds
