To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

Greetings from the St. Louis Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel!

Yesterday and today, our Chapter hosted Veta Richardson, the president and CEO of the ACC. During the time she was with us here in St. Louis she moderated a panel discussion on diversity for our annual Corporate Counsel Institute, discussed current issues over dinner with our general counsel members, and visited with our board of directors. We also treated her to a visit to the Arch, lunch on the Hill and then to a frozen custard at Ted Drewes. Veta shared her exciting plans to make the ACC even more effective as the voice of the in-house bar.

Our Chapter has celebrated early successes this year. We launched the Street Law Program, a corporate diversity pipeline program for high school students. Our Chapter partnered with Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School and sponsor Thompson Coburn to bring this program to nearly 70 enthusiastic high school students, many of whom expressed a greater interest in legal careers following the program. We also selected our inaugural class of six first-year law students for the new ACC St. Louis Diversity Internship Program. Our kick-off event will be hosted by sponsor Williams Venker & Sanders and will include representatives from the six participating companies: BJC Health, Maritz, Missouri American Water, Savis, Sigma Aldrich, and UniGroup.

The leadership of the St. Louis Chapter is committed to providing value – providing value first and foremost to our 486 members. Today’s economic climate challenges us to accomplish more with less. ACC is part of the solution. In-house lawyers have many options in professional organizations to join and programs to attend. We will do what it takes to keep ACC at the top of the list.

We are also providing value to our sponsors. Most of the financial support for our Chapter comes from our sponsors, and they need to realize benefits from a continuing association with our Chapter.

Finally we are committed to providing value to our community. ACC-STL  provides opportunities for members to contribute in meaningful ways to the Greater St. Louis Area community and to improve the legal profession.

This is an exciting time for our Chapter. Building on several years of growth, the board is committed to leading our Chapter to new heights. We hope to achieve the 500-member milestone this year. We are planning CLE, diversity, networking and social opportunities that will be better than ever.

If you are an in-house attorney but not currently a member of ACC, why not join today? ACC resources, programs and networking opportunities more than pay for the price of membership. You can find out more about membership and our Large Law discounts by visiting www.acc.com/aboutacc/membership.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions on how we can add value and better serve your needs, please do not hesitate to call me or any of your board members.

Sincerely,

Jan Robey Alonzo
