To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

Hello from South Carolina! Our relatively new South Carolina Chapter of ACC, which we started in 2010, is still gaining momentum and continues to celebrate our achievement of receiving the Membership Excellence Award in the small chapter category at the 2011 ACC Annual Meeting in Denver.

We currently have over 125 members and are presently in our second sponsorship term. We have a fantastic group of 15 firm sponsors this term. We’ve already had a number of substantive CLE offerings and social events and we have many more events in the works. Some of the topics we have covered at recent programs include: project management for the legal department, legislative initiatives that impact business, managing privacy risks, boiler plate contract language that can burn you, and current environmental issues. Upcoming social events include networking at an upcoming USC baseball game, dinners at restaurants in the Charleston, Greenville, and Columbia areas, and a return of the extremely popular performance driving experience at the BMW test track.

Additionally, we are offering our members opportunities to make an impact in the South Carolina legal community. On January 21, we supported the South Carolina Bar Foundation by having two tables of ACC members at the South Carolina Bar Foundation Gala. We have recently surveyed some of our members regarding their interest in pro bono activities and will be asking for more input regarding pro bono programs before planning a pro bono activity for later in the year.

Members of our chapter have recently spoken to students at the University of South Carolina School of Law and the Charleston School of Law. We are working with both of these law schools to continue to afford our members the chance to advise law students of what it is like to practice law in a business environment.

To learn more about ACC and the South Carolina chapter, go to www.acc.com and select South Carolina from the chapter list. We ask that you join us and get involved in one of our committees. We hope to see you at an upcoming event.

Sincerely,

Debbie Deutschmann
