To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:
Our Chapter continues to present a high volume of excellent CLE addressing a wide range of current topics facing in-house attorneys.Elsewhere in this newsletter is a list of offerings that have already been scheduled for this fall, and others are in the planning stages.
While we will maintain our commitment to excellence in our extensive CLE offerings, the Chapter is also committed to enhancing the networking opportunities for the in-house bar in the Greater New York area.Events include regular meetings of chapter committees and groups, chapter sponsored pro bono activities, and various social events throughout the year.
Our chapter committees and groups have been especially active this year. The chapter has formed a Chief Legal Officer's Group, which is anetworking forum exclusively for General Counsel and chief legal officers in all industries. The forum, which has become very popular, allows CLOs to participate regularly in informal networking, usually over breakfast at either the office of one of our colleagues or a chapter sponsor. The group focuses on the practice and management needs of the CLO and allows discussion and exchange of ideas on all relevant topics of interest among peers and geared towards the unique objectives of the chief legal officer.
The Retail Group currently includes in-house counsel of major department stores, specialty stores, and designer boutiques, as well as manufacturers of cosmetics and toiletries, apparel and accessories. Some recent topics of discussion (for both CLE credit and non CLE credit) were Anti-counterfeiting, Bankruptcy, Commercial Co-Ventures, Consumer Privacy, Gift Cards, Refunds and Exchanges.
We welcome ideas and suggestions for new committees, groups and of course CLE programs.
One of the highlights of the year is the ACC Annual Meeting. This year it is scheduled for October 18-21, in Boston. Once again, we anticipate an outstanding selection of CLE courses for experts and generalists whether from large or small departments. The Annual meeting is a great opportunity to network with counterparts from around the country and to really obtain the full benefits of the Association of Corporate Counsel, our parent organization.
I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Meeting and at other events in the fall.
Have a great summer!
