Letter From The President Of The Southwest Ohio Chapter Of The Association of Corporate Counsel

2009-06-01 00:00

To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

After the first quarter of 2009, I am very pleased with the participation and contributions of so many of the directors and members of our chapter. Todd Wilkowski, membership director, leads a very active Membership Committee, and they have been working on quite a few ideas to increase our membership. Todd recently announced a new member recruiting contest with some excellent prizes including two $250 Visa cards. Doug Pyne, one of our newer directors, put together an information packet for our members in transition. Doug based this packet on information put together by ACC Members in the Atlanta, GA chapter, and Doug took the initiative to solicit input and put together a document listing local recruiters and other resources for members seeking new positions. This document is available on the "Members in Transition" link at http://newsmanager.commpartners.com/accswoh/issues/2009-05-06/4.html .

Our Southwest Ohio Chapter of ACC recently received a plaque awarding us as "2008 Outstanding Chapter of the Year - Honorable Mention."The award states that it was presented "In recognition of your achievements in providing quality services and programs for your members." Congratulations to Immediate Past President Jill McIntosh and all those who contributed to our chapter gaining this award.

One of our 2009 goals is establishing more social networking opportunities for all of our members and prospective members. We are planning a group outing to a Cincinnati Reds game, which will allow us to socialize with other members and prospective members, as well as have our families join in. A separate group outing will take place at a Dayton Dragons (minor league baseball) game. In September, we are planning a fun event at Dave & Busters. These events are close to being finalized, but if you have suggestions or ideas on any social networking opportunities, we welcome your input.

At our annual meeting in January, we had a "Speed Networking" opportunity which was very well received. In June, we are going to have a Member Exchange allowing members to share work-related ideas and gain from the expertise of each other. In February, Thompson Hine provided an excellent presentation on Workforce issues. Bricker and Eckler presented a very informative program at the GE Learning Center in March. In April, Wood Herron & Evans facilitated an interactive seminar relating to the basics of Intellectual Property. I cannot recall another presentation that involved so many excellent questions and issues brought up by our members.

Other upcoming Southwest Ohio ACC programs include:

June 18 - Member Exchange Roundtable (exchange of substantive legal and in-house practice ideas) at the Montgomery Inn in Montgomery, OH, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

July 23 - Dinsmore & Shohl will sponsor a program on Software Licensing focusing on contract/practical issues, beginning at noon.

Details will be forwarded to all our members about upcoming programs, and a complete list of programs is available by clicking on the Upcoming ACC Programs link located on the Southwest Ohio Chapter ACC website. We are still working on some of the details of the upcoming events and programs, so if you have any ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of our directors or committee chairs.

I look forward to talking with all of our members at our Southwest Ohio Chapter of ACC upcoming events!

Sincerely,

Thomas Hoft
