Whether working in-house or as outside counsel at a firm, lawyers who advise corporations face unique ethical dilemmas. For example: The attorney is asked a question by one of the company’s executives that is not strictly legal in nature. Do the rules of attorney-client privilege still protect the ensuing discussions? One employee has filed a harassment claim against another, and an internal investigation needs to take place. How can in-house counsel conduct this investigation and not cross into ethical traps? How quickly must in-house counsel respond to an internal client’s concerns? Is there a period of “reasonableness” in which to reply?

In this program, in-house and outside counsel faculty members share ethics guidelines in dealing with very real, day-to-day situations.
