The program, which will begin with a 30-minute screening of the film, Gideon’s Promise Unfulfilled, narrated by actor Martin Sheen of the West Wing, will include a panel of federal and state prosecutors and defenders followed by a cocktail reception. Attendees will hear about what the landmark decision did or did not do for people accused of crime and learn what needs to happen to fulfill the promise of Gideon.

This film features interviews with Abe Krash; Bruce Jacob (who represented Florida in the Gideon case but who is now a leading advocate for reform); Walter Mondale (who, as Minnesota attorney general, organized an amicus brief from state attorney generals in Gideon’s favor); and Anthony Lewis, the long-time New York Times columnist and author of Gideon’s Trumpet.
