With the evaluation process for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) new generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) program underway, intellectual property (IP) owners will be facing new challenges in the coming months and years as the Internet expands to include numerous new domain spaces. In order to be prepared to protect their intellectual property both during this evaluation process and beyond, IP owners must begin considering how to adapt their online enforcement strategies. Furthermore, as the changes to the Internet domain name space will likely result in an evolution of current Internet policy, IP owners may wish to consider increasing their involvement in advocacy activities so that their interests are represented in policy development. This presentation will provide practical guidance on enforcement options during the remainder of the new gTLD evaluation process and after new gTLDs start to become operational, as well as constructive strategies for IP owner advocacy at the policy level.
