On August 7, 2012, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to participate in up to $7 billion in large-scale reliable, locally generated, renewable and alternative energy projects. This RFP is part of the Department of Defense's efforts to obtain 25% of its electric power needs from renewable resources by 2025.

Since the issuance of the RFP, a number of clients have shown an interest in how Akin Gump's vast experience in military and government contract work (including numerous base housing and base improvement projects) and its industry leading renewable energy practice could combine to help our clients' chances of success in both the bidding process and in obtaining individual projects under the RFP. To this end, we have had our lawyers engaged throughout the RFP and pre-RFP process, including, most recently, their attendance at the Pre-Proposal conference held by the Army in Huntsville, Alabama on August 22, 2012.

On September 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Akin Gump will be holding a webinar for our clients to discuss the RFP and how they might better position themselves to participate and succeed in the RFP process. Webinar participants will include partners from our government and contracts practice and our renewable energy practice, as well as former Rear Admiral David J. Mercer from Jones Group International.
