The District of Columbia Bar has planned a program titled Data Breach Risks and Protections for Health Lawyers: Do You Know Where Your Information is Today? On Wednesday, March 21, at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1101 K. Street, NW in the District.
It begins at noon and ends at 1:30 p.m.
Data breaches are more serious and numerous than ever before, in health care and beyond. Health lawyers must protect their information and their clients’ information. With new communication devices, data breaches are more likely since the information security on them may be at risk.
The program will first provide four basic foundations, second, the applicable laws and requirements, third, the most likely risks and potential losses, fourth, what can be done to provide more protection and security, and finally, what must be done if a data breach involving health information occurs. The speakers will also review what insurance and indemnification protections are necessary and the professional responsibility implications.
Among the faculty are Alan Goldberg, attorney, adjunct professor of Health Law, George Mason University; Jonathan Joseph, Christian & Barton; and Melinda Murray, staff attorney, Holy Cross Hospital.
