The Institute of Continuing Legal Education of Georgia will hold a two-day Corporate Counsel Institute on Thursday and Friday, December 8 and 9.
The seminar is located at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 3300 Peachtree Road in Atlanta. On Thursday, segments run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. On Friday seminars begin at 8:25 a.m. and the conference adjourns at 3:30 p.m.
The seminar will open with a speech by the Hon. Kasim Reed, the mayor of the City of Atlanta. Another segment will offer a Georgia legislative and policy update moderated by William V. “Bill” Custer, IV of Bryan Cave, LLP. A luncheon keynote address will feature Hon. Samuel S. Olens, the attorney general of Georgia, who will offer his thoughts on ethics and professionalism in modern legal practice. A review of the new generic top-level domain names (GTLDS) will follow.
Day two will feature a presentation on class action litigation after Concepcion and Dukes presented by J. Henry Walker, IV of Kilpatrick, Townsend & Stockton, LLP and Neal S. Berinhout, AT&T. The luncheon speaker is Paul D. Clement, former U.S. solicitor general, Bancroft PLLC, who will review the Roberts court as a business court.
The seminar also includes a panel discussion titled Blowing the Whistle: Implementing the New Dodd-Frank Whistleblower Rules moderatored by John L. Latham of Alston & Bird and with panelists Scarlett May of Ruby Tuesday and Brad Nesmith of the Home Depot.
A final session will examine personal liability for in-house counsel for corporate violations and will be moderated by Paul B. Murphy of King & Spalding LLP.
