The Los Angeles County Bar Association is holding its 44th Annual Securities Regulation Seminar on Friday, October 28.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, 506 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles.
The seminar brings top Washington and regional SEC officials together with representatives of other regulatory agencies and leading private practitioners to present their view of trends and developments in the securities field. It will include an overview of judicial, regulatory and enforcement developments, as well as trends in the public and private offerings of securities, mergers and acquisitions, and other matters of interest to the securities bar.
Topics under discussion include Dodd-Frank, regulatory reform and recent case law developments; enforcement developments; recent corporate regulatory developments; and ethical considerations for the securities lawyer. The first breakout session will offer a corporation finance roundtable, whistleblowers, and financing businesses in the current economic environment. The second breakout session covers what business lawyers need to know about the new investment advisor regulations, developments in securities litigation, and mergers and acquisitions.
The keynote speaker is Elisse B. Walter, commissioner of the SEC. Among the faculty are Meredith B. Cross, director of the SEC Division of Corporate Finance; Joseph A. Grundfest, Stanford Law School; Michael A. Woronoff, Proskauer Rose LLP; and Michael C. Kelley, Sidley Austin LLP.
