On Monday, September 16, the DC Bar Association presents Avoiding and Litigating Wage and Overtime Claims Under the FLSA 2011. The program is at the DC Bar Conference Center located at 1101 K Street, NW in Washington, DC. The event begins at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 4:15 p.m.

Attendees will learn how to advise employers on wage and overtime requirements, represent employees seeking back pay and overtime, defend Fair Labor Standards Act and state lawsuits, and determine when to settle. A distinguished faculty will guide participants through the process, from drafting employer policies to using experts in the courtroom. The panel will address the common mistakes employers make, and why many employers are not in compliance with the FLSA and how this impacts litigation from minor infringements to class actions.

Other topics include exempt classifications; absence and leave policies; practical ways to deal with travel time; concerns arising in alternative work arrangements; and effective strategies for litigating and defending FLSA and state lawsuits; and determining when to settle.

The panelists are Daniel Katz, Andalman & Flynn PC; and Mark Papadopoulos, Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C.
