On Wednesday, August 31, the District of Columbia Bar Association hosts Fundamentals of Taking Expert Depositions. The program is at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1101 K. Street, NW in Washington, DC. It begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9:15 p.m.
Litigation success often depends on taking an effective deposition of the opposing party's expert. This introductory class will offer participants practical techniques and tips to conduct a successful expert witness deposition. Joseph Piorkowski, an attorney who has led expert witness teams in many high-profile cases, will provide practical guidance on what you need to know, from the preliminary planning stages to the conclusion of the expert deposition. Attendees will receive advice on time management - a critical factor in successful expert depositions. In addition, students will learn techniques for handling experts who are nonresponsive or obstructionist, and tips for dealing with inappropriate objections or interference by opposing counsel.
