The Practising Law Institute has scheduled a live seminar for two days in May to explore information privacy, security, and data protection - issues that all companies face.
The annual Privacy and Data Security Law Institute will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 24 and 25, at the PLI California Center, 685 Market Street in San Francisco.
It will run from 9 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Powerful tools for the collection, processing, and storage of data create numerous issues regarding limitations on corporate rights to use that information and obligations to protect it from a variety of new risks and vulnerabilities. Legislators, regulators, and the courts are rapidly developing new laws and compliance obligations to address the privacy and security implications for the information economy. This conference will focus on these developments to help keep attorneys and other privacy professionals informed in this dynamic area of laws and regulations.
Among the topics the conference will cover are the latest federal and state legislation, regulations, and decisions regarding privacy and security; foreign developments in data protection law and their impact on U.S. companies; the current enforcement priorities of the FTC and the State Attorneys General; the latest legislative developments pertaining to information security requirements; ethical and privilege issues for lawyers using information technology; and evolving online data collection and marketing techniques and their impact on privacy law.
Speakers include Joseph Alhadeff, vice president for Global Public Policy, Oracle Corporation; J. Beckwith Burr, Wilmer Hale; Loretta Garrison, Federal Trade Commission; Shannon E. Smith, senior counsel, Consumer Protection Division Attorney General of Washington; Katherine M. Tassi, Product and Regulatory Counsel, Facebook; and Holly K. Towle, K&L Gates.
